About us

Gene targeting in mice has been recognized as a key technologies in biological sciences and medicine. The importance of this technology was acknowledged by the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 2007. Genetics has provided a plethora of data; however, the difficulty is to unravel the functional consequences of the genetic information available. Through the generation of mutant mice, Austromouse will address the objective “to optimise the use and development of existing research infrastructures, and to ensure the access of research teams from across Austria to these infrastructures”.

Offering access to a mouse mutant infrastructure is clearly a key for Austrian researchers to remain at the forefront of functional genetics and to foster progress in medicine. Austromouse also promotes knowledge and trains young researchers in mouse genetics. Combining the expertise across 8 research groups in 4 partner institutions, we strive to become a European centre of excellence for mouse technologies.
